How DialTale works

Last updated September 16, 2026

DialTale is Micro Audio Drama delivered over the phone. Each series lives on its own phone number. You call the number and a short episode plays, usually under three minutes. Call back and the story picks up where you left off.

About the business

DialTale is operated by DialTale, LLC. We produce original audio drama series and publish them through inbound phone lines rather than an app or a feed. Our first series is Misfortune. Episodes are pre-recorded audio performed by voice talent; there is no live agent on the line.

Calls are free to place from most US mobile and landline plans, the same as any other domestic call. Your own carrier's rates apply.

What happens when you call

  1. A short hook and a series introduction play, including a content advisory for the series you called.
  2. Your episode plays. The line remembers your place by your caller ID, so your next call continues the story.
  3. When you're caught up, you hear a short message about when the next episode opens.

If your caller ID is blocked, the line can't hold your place, so you start from episode one each time you call. We say so on the call.

How the text alert sign-up works

Sign-up happens on the phone call itself, by keypad. There is no sign-up form on this website, and we never add a number to alerts unless the caller opts in on a call.

  1. At the end of a call, callers who haven't signed up hear the offer: "Press 1 for texts when new episodes drop."
  2. Pressing 1 plays the full terms, start to finish: "By pressing 1, you agree to get recurring automated text alerts about new episodes and new DialTale stories. No purchase required. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to end them."
  3. Pressing 1 a second time, after those terms have played, records the sign-up. Any other key, or no key at all, ends the call and nothing is recorded.
  4. Once text alerts are live, that second press is followed by one confirmation text, and the alerts begin from the next release.

Text alerts are not live yet. During our pilot the line records a caller's request only, and no text messages are sent to anyone. When alerts launch, anyone who asked during the pilot is asked again on a call before we send anything.
